Halgabron Mill Holiday Cottages Garden

Tintagel – N Cornwall

This garden of about 5 acres , midway between Tinatagel and Boscastle , is set within a mini “Himalayan like” wooded gorge of the Trevillett stream which runs through the property and out to the sea below via the National Trust owned Rocky Valley. it was a natural challenge when first acquired in 1989 to plant up with appropriate plants . First the hillside needed to be cleared and steps and paths created to give reasonable access and this work was very well carried out by Dominic Hall and his team during 1989 and 1990 . Since then a plant collection has developed consisting today of approximately 300 rhododendron species . 100 rhododendron hybrids , some 60 different camellias and 45 magnolias . There is also a variety of other woody plants including acers and a collection of hydrangeas which extends the colour in the garden on from the Spring through the Summer and Autumn . It remains a challenging terrain for successful gardening , but is appreciated by many visitors to the Holiday Cottages .
